The Jeep Gladiator Is Finally Getting a 4xe Hybrid Powertrain
Jeep has confirmed that it will introduce the Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid sometime next year. This electrified version of the popular pickup truck will join the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe in Jeep’s lineup as electric vehicle (EV) sales show signs of slowing down.
Powertrain Details
The Gladiator 4xe is expected to share its plug-in hybrid powertrain with the Wrangler 4xe. Here are the key details:
- Engine: The Wrangler 4xe features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
- Electric Motor: It also has a starter generator and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox.
- Total System Output: The combined system output is an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
Replacing the EcoDiesel Option
The arrival of the Gladiator 4xe follows Jeep’s decision to phase out the EcoDiesel engine option for the Gladiator. With the plug-in hybrid variant, Jeep aims to offer a more potent choice for buyers.
Pricing and Arrival Date
While Jeep hasn’t confirmed the exact arrival date for the Gladiator 4xe, the brand has previously stated that it plans to electrify its entire lineup by 2025. As for pricing, the 2024 Wrangler 4xe starts at $52,554 (including the $1,895 destination charge), which is nearly $20,000 more than the entry-level gas-powered version. If the Gladiator 4xe follows a similar premium over the base Gladiator, we can expect its hybrid price to be just under $60,000.
